How do I buy gold and short gold without taking delivery?
 

I have alot of silver for the future if tshtf and want to know how to buy gold and short it online w/o taking delivery and paying shipping etc?

Do I need a trading account like scottrade? Is there a better way?

No offense, but if you don't even know the answers to the simple questions you've asked, you're probably going to to get raped in the futures market! Read a few books on the subject to start with. You should probably paper trade for a while as well before you commit real money and resources.

shorting gold is a trick for the BIG boys on the block. Meaning you better have fort knox to back your position.
If you want to play with gold, my best advice to you is to BUY some and keep it close.

If you own gold and silver in hand.

And you have some exta FRNs on hand in a trading account.

Then yes, you can in effect sell your gold, without it leaving your possession.

I would use the ETF GLD to make this trade.

You sell the ETF short, hoping you sold into strength and buy it back when it weakens to cover your short.

By doing this you avoid the 3% to even close to 10% round trip costs if you bought and sold physical gold.

How long you think ppl should be paper trading before getting in to the market then? I've been doing this for years, but still think Im quite ready yet ... lol :bear_w00t:
